with Shanti Johnson
project coordinator, Mike and Maureen Mansfield Center
Art, story, and the human voice are often underutilized in STEM fields for fear of professional backlash, but many educational and professional institutions are beginning to transition to STEAM—incorporating art in the curriculum. Come learn about the newest methods of technical communication and expand your own tool box for communicating the importance of your personal work. In this workshop, science writer and environmental journalist Shanti Johnson will offer several out-of-the-box methods for communicating technical subjects to a general audience. From using your smart phone to capture creative images of research, to understanding the power of metaphors and narrative, Johnson will work with audience-specific material to help transcend technical language barriers and disseminate information.
