Humanities Montana’s Film + Video grants offer multiyear support or one-time-only funding for major projects in film and video that promote a deeper understanding of Montana history and culture as well as those that examine themes and subjects in the humanities relevant and important to Montana communities.
Film + Video grants support collaboration between media producers and scholars to develop content grounded in humanities scholarship and prepare documentary films or programs made for television that engage public audiences with humanities ideas in creative and appealing ways.
No one project can receive more than $28,000 in total Film + Video grants. All grants are contingent upon the availability of funds from the National Endowment for the Humanities.

As the funding landscape for federal agencies continues to evolve, Humanities Montana is following guidance as released by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). For information regarding recent Executive Orders and their impact on the NEH, visit the NEH website.
Award Amounts
Stage One – Up to $8,000 Research and script development
Stage Two – Up to $10,000 Production, including principal photography, source material acquisition, and rights clearance
Stage Three – Up to $10,000 Completion of product, including post-production
Eligibility
Private nonprofit organizations; accredited institutions of higher education; state, local, and federally recognized Tribal governments and agencies (schools, libraries, museums, etc.); groups of persons that form an association to carry out a project for approved nonprofit purposes. A Unique Entity ID (UEI) and Federal Tax ID (EIN) are required to apply.
Independent filmmakers and fiscal sponsors must consult with Humanities Montana staff to assess substantive involvement and determine eligibility.
Humanities Montana awards Film + Video grants exclusively to eligible organizations, not to individuals or for-profit production companies.
