Humanities Montana Board Tours MSU’s American Indian Hall

During Humanities Montana’s winter board meeting in Bozeman last week, the board had the honor of touring Montana State University’s American Indian Hall.

The hall’s design, inspired by Indigenous architecture and environmental sustainability, reflects deep respect for Native heritage. AIH hosts MSU’s department of Native American studies and the American Indian/Alaska Native student success services office, which serves over 800 Native students. The Hall includes three classrooms with space for 140 students in total, student commons with a kitchen, childcare area, and computer room, a drum room and ceremonial space, gallery space, and an interpretive garden for education on native plants and their uses.

AIH embodies MSU’s commitment to Indigenous education and inclusivity, creating a welcoming space where Native students can thrive. AIH welcomes visitors of all backgrounds to experience its art, learn from its gardens, engage with Indigenous wisdom, and take part in meaningful conversations about our shared past, present, and future.
