Humanities Montana’s Mini-Grants are rapid-response grants awarded to nonprofit organizations and public institutions across Montana to support public humanities programs that engage Montanans in meaningful discussion about the human condition, strengthen cooperative relationships among communities and cultural organizations (museums, libraries, schools, tribal organizations, etc.) and enrich civic discourse among the state’s diverse cultures and across its geographical distances.  

These grants are designed to support a vast array of bold and innovative projects that are meaningful to local communities and inspire timely community conversations, from film screenings and panel discussions to cultural festivals and youth literacy programs — and much more.

As the funding landscape for federal agencies continues to evolve, Humanities Montana is following guidance as released by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). For information regarding recent Executive Orders and their impact on the NEH, visit the NEH website.

Eligibility

Nonprofit organizations, accredited institutions of higher education, state or local government or one of their agencies (schools, libraries, museums, etc.), federally recognized Native American Tribal governments, and tribal organizations. A Unique Entity ID (UEI) and Federal Tax ID (EIN) are required to apply. To learn more, take our online eligibility survey.

Application Deadlines:

Rolling Submission Deadline ( Dependent on funding availability)
Applications can be submitted anytime, but at least four to six weeks before the project activities begin.

Grant Term
Up to 12 months beginning the date of an award announcement

Award Notification
4-6 weeks after submission
